The short answer

By receptor binding strength, THCP (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is the strongest hemp-derived cannabinoid anyone has isolated so far. Lab work on CB1 affinity puts it far above delta-9 THC. Binding affinity is not the same as how high you get, though, and for most people the strongest product they can actually buy is a hemp-derived delta-9 item with a big milligram number attached to it.

So there are two honest answers. THCP wins on paper. Delta-9 THC wins in practice, because the dose per serving is usually higher and the effects are far better understood.

How potency actually gets measured

Three different numbers get called "strength," and they rarely agree with each other.

THCP scores high on the first and often low on the second, because most THCP products contain a small percentage blended into a base of other cannabinoids.

The main contenders

THCP

Discovered in 2019 and structurally close to THC, with a longer side chain that appears to fit the CB1 receptor better. It shows up in vapes and gummies at low percentages, usually mixed with delta-8 or delta-9. Effects are described as slow-building and long-lasting. Human dosing data is thin, which is exactly why you treat it with respect.

THCJD and THCB

Both are sold as ultra-potent, and both lean on marketing more than science. There is no meaningful published human pharmacology for THCJD, and THCB has barely been studied outside of receptor assays. Any claim that one of these is 30 times stronger than delta-9 should be read as advertising until independent testing backs it up.

Hemp-derived delta-9 THC

This is the benchmark. Federal law caps hemp at 0.3% delta-9 by dry weight, but finished products like gummies are measured by total milligrams, so a single piece can legally carry a substantial dose. Dose for dose, this is the most predictable and most intense option on the shelf.

HHC and delta-8

Both feel milder to most users. HHC is often described as close to delta-9 but gentler, and delta-8 lands somewhere around half the strength for many people. Neither belongs in a conversation about the strongest.

Why the label dose beats molecule hype

A 5 mg THCP gummy blended with 40 mg of delta-8 is a delta-8 gummy with a marketing hook. Read total cannabinoids per serving, not the exotic name on the front of the package. A 50 mg delta-9 edible will out-hit almost any boutique cannabinoid at a fraction of the price.

What I check before buying

Dosing without regret

Start at 2.5 to 5 mg of delta-9 if you are new, and wait a full two hours before taking more. Edibles stack, and the second dose always arrives before you think it will. Vapes hit in minutes but fade fast. With THCP blends, cut the starting dose in half again, because the onset is slower and the tail is longer. Keep the packaging. If you feel too high, the label is the first thing anyone helping you will want to see.
