Where to Find Organic Cannabis Flower: A Buyer's Guide
Cannabis can't carry the USDA organic seal, but state and private certifications do exist. Here's where to buy certified organic flower and how to verify it.
Organic cannabis flower costs more than conventional flower. The label "organic" has no federal rule for cannabis. USDA organic certification does not apply to cannabis because cannabis is illegal under federal law. Some states allow private certifications. Examples: Clean Green Certified, Certified Kind, and Sun+Earth. These programs inspect farms for soil, pest control, and processing. A product with one of these seals costs 10% to 30% more than flower without a seal.
Do not pay a premium for the word "organic" alone. Ask for the certificate. Check the farm name and certifying body. If the dispensary cannot show a certificate, treat the flower as conventional. Pay conventional price.
