Short answer

"Open now" has three parts: your local time, the store's posted hours, and state law. A dispensary near you can be open and still not sell to you. Age rules, ID rules, and purchase limits apply at the counter.

Check hours in three places

  1. Maps listing. Google Maps and Apple Maps show posted hours. Holiday hours change. Call first.
  2. Store website. Licensed shops post a menu with hours. Some update the menu each morning.
  3. Phone. A staff member answers during open hours. Ask for the last sale time. Some shops stop entry 15 to 30 minutes before close.

Hours differ by market

Most US dispensaries open between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and close between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Las Vegas has shops that stay open 24 hours. Some medical markets in Oklahoma run late. City rules set closing times in some places, so two shops in the same metro can close at different times.

Age, ID, and limits

Adult-use sales require age 21 and a government photo ID. Medical sales require a state-issued card and, in most states, age 18. California caps an adult purchase at 28.5 grams of flower and 8 grams of concentrate. Other states set lower caps. Bring the ID that matches your name on the medical card.

Payment

Cannabis is illegal under federal law. Card networks and most banks do not process dispensary sales. Bring cash. Many shops have an ATM on site. Some take debit through a cashless ATM system, which adds a fee.

Verify the license

State regulators publish license lists. California's Department of Cannabis Control, Colorado's Marijuana Enforcement Division, and Washington's Liquor and Cannabis Board each run a public lookup. A shop that is not on the list is not legal.
