What a One-Hour Cannabis Delivery Costs
One-hour cannabis delivery is a service tier, not a fixed price. A licensed retailer in California or New York can send a driver in about an hour if the address sits inside a short radius and a driver is on shift. That speed costs $10 to $25 on top of the order. Many shops skip the express fee and quote a 1 to 3 hour window instead.
Check the license before you compare prices. In California, every delivery order must trace to a licensed retailer. In New York, delivery comes from licensed dispensaries and their staff. A one-hour promise from an unlicensed seller is not a cheaper option. It is untested product with no lab report and no route to a refund.
Cost Parts
Base price and tax
- Flower, vape, and edible prices move with brand and weight. An eighth (3.5 g) runs $30 to $60 before tax in most markets.
- California adds a 15% excise tax at retail. Sales tax applies on top, and city taxes add more.
- New York adds a 13% excise tax (9% state, 4% local) plus sales tax.
Fees
- Delivery fee: $5 to $15 at many shops. Some waive it above a minimum order, often $50 to $100.
- Express or one-hour surcharge: $10 to $25.
- Driver tip: 10% to 20% is common.
- Payment: cards are rare at the door. Debit and cash are the norm.
Parameters That Move the Number
- Distance. Most one-hour offers cover 5 to 10 miles from the store. Past that, the window widens.
- Minimum order. A $50 to $100 floor is typical for free delivery.
- Time of day. Late evening and weekends have fewer drivers on the road.
- Stock. If an item is out, the order changes and the clock resets.
- ID check. The driver scans a government ID. No ID means no package.
Pitfalls
- A price far under the local market. Lab testing and tax cost money.
- No license number on the site or the receipt.
- No QR code or track-and-trace label on the package.
- Cash only, with no receipt.
- "Gifting" language that hides a sale.
Ask four questions before you order: the license number, the total with tax and fees, the minimum order, and the delivery radius. A one-hour quote means little if the store cannot name those numbers.
